Vietnam Part 2

The bands / organizers were hosted dinner at the Highway 4 Restaurant. All of us sat on the floor and with us were the nice folks from Minuit (click here to check them out). Us being unfamiliar with foreign cuisine, got a shock when Ruth told us that we were eating cat meat. Of course she was kidding and I went on to attack the spring rolls. We aren't really happening people, so after some post dinner chit chat, we made our way back to the hotel, which wasn't that bad cos they had cable TV. I think the rest went partying or something. Dangz.

Above you could see a group shot of us sans A.K. He had work so he only flew in the day after if i'm not wrong. Also check out the chairs with very low seats.

Good Morning Vietnam

Found lotsa pictures from our trip to Vietnam some time ago, and there were really many pics, so I'd have to divide them into different posts.
Vietnam is really something else. It's a land stalled in time. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We're so used to having shopping centres around, fast food joints, cinemas, etc and when we were there, it was really cut down to the basics, nothing fancy. We weren't complaining because we were hosted by the kind folks who got us there, at the Hanoi Hilton and it was awesome. The festival was also for a good cause, (please click here to read more) and we were honoured to be a part of that.

If you look at the last 2 pics above, we frequented that joint really often to get out daily dose of mango smoothies. Really good stuff. And we sat on really low stools which you might see in the upcoming posts of our adventures there.

Let the games begin!

Drum tracks for 'The New 21', 'Jangan' and 'Calibre' were recorded on Sunday, Mr Leonard marked another attempt in support of his pursuit for Best Actor with some keys for 'Machines'. I managed to get the starting guitar bit for the latest song down after numerous attempts and after some great touch-up by Wan on my tele, we managed to record that. Hopefully there wont be any mistakes spotted after repeated hearing.

So England is finally out. Made my way to the McDonald's near my place to catch the last few minutes of the game. Germany were already 4-1 up when i got there and McDonald's was packed (check out the last picture above). It's a very disappointing campaign for the English team, to say the least. They did pretty well in the qualifying rounds, etc. So i just found out that the DVD England did (click here) was a world cup qualifying match, which I initially thought was a friendly game. But nonetheless! It was still unnecessary and pretty dumb. Would Germany return the favour and release a DVD of their own?

Just discovered the pics we had from our trip to Vietnam last year, it's quite a bit and i was considering setting up a Flicker account for the band. Will keep y'all updated on that.

So the general consensus in the Sparkle camp, or at least Mr Leonard's, A.K.'s and my thoughts and hopes are for Germany to beat England. No offense to the England fans out there, but if you really think about it, it's really ridiculous. It can be annoying thinking of them. And their under achievements. That being said, France and Italy had a really bad campaign too. Maybe there are too many aged players in those teams. I wouldn't know, but it's really bad to have the defending champions knocked out in the group stages. It's disappointing that South Korea got knocked out too, they're a great team. Let's see how Japan progresses, hope they go far.

Yesterday's session at the Snakelabs was pretty good. Wan laid down 2 tracks (with much ease), Bad Corpse and a new one tentatively named, 'Gun Salute'. AK and I went on to lay our guitar parts down, and with the assistance of Mr Leonard, it came out pretty nice. We had a mini discussions on our website, and how we should lay the stuff out. Errol also dropped by and took some nice shots (which I'm gonna post in the next entry). Later today Razin (one of the documentary boys) will drop by to discuss about the photoshoot for our press shots, etc.

With hopes to facilitate productivity when the guys are doing their parts, a mini office vicinity was set up in the Labs.

Hello there.
Here are the pictures from our last session at the Snakelabs. On Saturday Farizwan managed to get the bass down for most of the tracks we did. We also played around with other instruments, namely the xylophone-like instrument. Initially Wan played the xylophone app on his phone. From there, Mr Leonard got the real deal in, and we got some tracks down, marking the debut of Mr Leonard, en route his Oscar nomination.

Sunday was spent editing guitars, adding and removing tracks, etc. Managed to come up with a little intro to Wild Horses. We have a thing for westerns. Specially the songs in it them, and maybe you could hear this influence rubbing on the intro of this track. Mr Leonard was sporting a cool t-shirt on Sunday, check image above out. :)

Another session is booked this Saturday and Sunday.

Ok guys, I'm getting sleepy, time to hit the sack.

Let's go Celtics

We didn't have any practice / recording sessions this weekend so time was spent at home gaming and watching TV. Purchased NBA 2K10 on Friday and it was cool. Deactivated the living roster at the start of the game though, and now i can't get it back on (the current line-up is without Nate Robinson and Marquis Daniels).

Had a meeting with the Wus mid last week on how we could take this vehicle further. So far efforts have been made to create a stronger online presence and we're working on the band's website. Hope to launch it soon. We also got the band's 'official' YouTube page (click to check it out), where you can check our past live performances, music videos and our silly sense of humour. Also, apparently we akready had an iLike account going on for the past few years and I'd like to apologize to the guy who posted something on our wall without any reply from us.

Celtics had a good game earlier, but Kobe's still dangerous. It's amazing what he's capable of. But that being said, the Celts are heading back to L.A. for the last 2 games, and all the best to them. It's been a really great team performance throughout the playoffs, and it'd be great to see them finish it off with the championship. Let's go Celtics!

I'm experiencing great weather where I'm at.

Good day folks.
We were at the labs yesterday and managed to lay down the drum tracks for 2 more songs, Bad Corpse and a new one which is still untitled. A.K's guitar parts were also introduced in Heights. There were some complications during heights where we might have played the wrong bars for the longest time, which was, at the end of it all, pretty baffling and hilarious! Recording can be pretty tough to me, as all mistakes made are revealed without chance and at times it does get nerve wrecking. But so far the progress has been consistent and that's pretty alright.

There are plans for stuff to happen at the end of the year, but those are still tentative.

*Celtics have tied the playoffs 1-1 with great marksmanship from Ray Allen, a triple double from Rondo and an overall great team performance. They will play again, this time at Boston this Wednesday morning, 9 a.m Singapore time (if i'm not wrong).

I wanna give a shout out to all you cats that retweeted about this blog. Really, really appreciate it.

Any of you folks follow basketball? Celtics will their series at L.A. this coming Friday morning. I was rooting for them in 2008 when these 2 met. It's a different year, but the allegiance still remains the same.

We were at the snakelabs to lay down ghostfuck and zouktro. The process involved with writing zouktro is really positive. We liked how the song turned out.. Myabe some thing you'd listen to while you orbit in space. We've always wanted to do this sorta thing, doing scores for a film or a documentary of sorts and this is the first time a serious approach has been taken.
Past 2 weeks have been pretty busy for the band wise, playing at the Wu's wedding, the Fred Perry show, recording.. etc.

Progress of the band has been consistent and we hope this comes out in the final product.

Documentary update:
Some of us have seen some cuts from the documentary and those guys have also done a great job thus far. We're excited how the final cut would be. We're honoured to have our journey chronicled and to have it done by such dedicated folks, it's amazing.
